Scouts

The Scouts are for children aged 10˝ to 14 years and meet from 8-9.15pm at Ballachulish Village Hall. The Scout Leader is Rob Malpas, helped by Assistant Scout Leader Morag Pitt and the Group Scout Leader Karl Griffin.

The Scout program consists of games and activities, many of which are based around learning skills for camping, expedition, survival and outdoor pursuits. These provide the basis for enjoying such activities with the Scouts, whether within the 4th Lochaber Group, or more widely when meeting with other groups from across Scotland, if not the world.

Whilst the long, cold, dark and often wet nights of winter make it difficult to get outside very often, but we still manage to fit in a varied program, making the most of the summer months with walks, orienteering, bivouack building and games around Ballachulish and south Lochaber. In the past we have also done mountain biking, a boat trip on Loch Leven and paper paddle boat races in the quarry.
Winter activities, which can be outside include camp fires, pioneering skills including knots, navigation, map and compass work, first aid, art, cooking and of course games, including capture the flag in the dark in the quarry!
